Problema este ca ceea ce doreste de fapt este masurarea magnitudinii aparente dar metoda respectiva nu este potrivita deoarece foloseste numai magnitudinea absoluta. De aici rezulta discrepantele observate, desigur o alta cauza fiind neuniformitatea acelei straluciri in cazul corpurilor considerate. Din acelasi articol ( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Surface_brightness) citez exemplul dat al formulei respective in cazul luminozitatii de suprafata a Soarelui:

"Relationship to physical units

The surface brightness in magnitude units is related to the surface brightness in physical units of solar luminosity per square parsec by

S(mag/arcsec^2)=M0+21.572-2.5\log_{10} S (L0/pc^2),

where M0 and L0 are the absolute magnitude and the luminosity of the Sun in chosen color-band respectively."
